I was all prepared to make fun of it, bash it if you will, for a complete and total lack of originality, for BMX again throwing out old technology as new and for it just generally being dumb. But I can’t, I can’t because of the text. The part where those bash guard bikes were Ryan Sher’s introduction to freestyle, how they were his childhood dream bike and now he’s in a position to make a proper homage to them.

Well, hell, dude. If I owned a BMX company I would have long ago put out a replica of the original GT Performer frame with updated geometry and, in fact, if GT made a limited edition run of retro Pro Performers right now I’d turn over my MasterCard to them. (And I mean a real replica, not the sticker set replica that Haro did with the “Anniversary Freestyler” a while back. Although, I’m a big enough chump to be tempted by that, too. Especially if they had Fiola sign them.)

So, I give Subrosa a “good job” for making my two sizes too small heart grow just a little bit with this. I’m not sure I’d buy it (the bash guard thing happened around the time when I became more interested in de-virginization than riding a bicycle) but I know a lot of guys are probably just as excited as Sher is over this and anything that builds excitement, especially among the traditionally ignored over 16 demographic, is awesome.
